Ca' d'Oro, Venice

The Ca' d'Oro (golden house) is so named because of the golden gilt and polychrome external decorations which once adorned its walls, although these have long since faded.

Also known as Palazzo Santa Sofia, it is one of the older palazzos (palace) in Venice. Bequeathed to the state by its former owner the building is open to the public as a gallery.
